- The body is taken to the ‘Ibu’.
- The body is cut open from the side and the lungs, liver, intestines and stomach are removed.
- A hook is placed up their nose and the brain is smashed and piece by piece is removed through the nose.
- The body is covered in salts and left for 40 days to dry all the moisture out.
- The body is covered in oils.
- The organs that were also dried out for the 40 days are placed in Canopic Jars.
- The organs are wrapped in linen and placed back in the body.
- The head is wrapped and then the legs and arms are wrapped separately so are the fingers.
- A priest reads spells out loud to get rid of evil spirits and to help the deceased travel to the afterlife.
- The book of the dead is placed on their chest and buried with the mummy.
- The body is wrapped in more cloth and more oils are spread on the body.
- The mummy is wrapped in linen.
- A wooden board is placed on the mummy and a picture of the god Osiris is painted on the surface.
- A funeral is held for the deceased.
